Aaaahhhhh..... Spring Break. A time off from school, a chance to enjoy your personal life, a time to feel those allergies, and most importantly, relax. Well, for us, it isn't a good thing. As we have mentioned in our last post, we have about less than a month to get our slides, videos, and website work done. We have a lot of tasks to get done, as you can see, and the break is taking away a week from that. We need as much time as possible to work. Also, the third visit is coming up! We have also started our slides/plans for our third visit. (*cough cough evidence....)
Our group is starting to wrap up our ideas/jobs.
We're really starting to pick up the slack and are feeling the stress, but we really want to win this so I think that this would be all worth it in the end. We are finishing up our website, as you can tell, we're going to be going to our third event at Magnolia Gardens next week, we're starting the end-of-the-program video that we planned, overall, it's really busy since there's only a month left. Help support us!!
Today was another after school meeting, and half of us are currently working on things to post on this website. Earlier this week, we hit our required followers number on Instagram! We currently have more than required (over 110 followers!) and hopefully we will get just as much support on our Facebook page. We are really starting to pick up the work and will be posting more often (hopefully) on both Facebook and Instagram so look out for those posts! If you were unaware, our Instagram @ is @gemsbuildla. Our Facebook page is called GEMS Build. Please support us!
Hi, everyone! Today, we are meeting to work more on our website, making Google Forms to keep track of progress, work on our budget, etc. We also are working on our social media platforms - we now have 47 followers on Instagram! Thank you for the support you are showing us! Our second meeting with the elderly is next week, and everyone is excited to meet our partners again! I (Kailyn) might even be playing the piano there. Maybe Lucy, too. I might post a short video on our Instagram with a snippet of the song that I'm planning on playing! I hope that the elderly and you all enjoy the song!
Soooooooo, here are some important things that have been happening!!
So... the retirement community....
The retirement community was WOOOOOOOOOOWWW.
It was really interesting. Some wanted to learn about technology, some did not, and that was ok. So, we ended up talking or showing stuff to them to make a connection, and it felt deeply touching to just be there.
What we need to do...
So, we had a lunch meeting, and our awesome mentors showed us how much work we have ahead in us, and encouraged us to review the rubric. We saw that we have a lot of work ahead of us, and need to work a lot more at home. We are having team meetings with our team to focus on our specific areas. We are planning to upload a photo gallery on here.
The Followers Conundrums
The goal is for people to follow us on Instagram so people can notice that we are making a difference, care, and be supportive. The goal is 75. We, at the time of this post, have 33. We need more. So, we have developed a strategy. We will make announcement and posters around the school encouraging fellow students to follow us. Lots of people have Instagram, so yay!
We also looked at the other competetors' websites. I hope you are just as excited and interested as I am to look at them. I'll provide a link somewhere in the About The Program section!
Sorry I haven't been posting for a WHIILLLEE, but I'm here! A bunch of important stuff happened between this post and the last.
This Wednesday through Friday, we'll be having after school meetings for certain teams only. Today, the Website, Social Media, and Videographer teams are meeting up. Social media is posting pictures for Instagram, the videographers are starting to interviewing us, and the website team is going to upload the bios on this website. The other groups will meet during the next 3 days. Also, WE ORDERED OUR T-SHIRTS! We don't know when they will arrive, but they are coming!
*We are leaving behind our Twitter account and are now going to focus on other social media accounts, like our Instagram.
This post came a day late. At the time of the meeting, Weebly seemed to be down. We tried to log on several computers, but that didn't work. This meeting is one of the most important meetings so far. We worked on our bios for that empty bio page. A milestone has been achieved. Ms. Wilkins, one of our mentors, went to visit a retirement home that invited her. That visit was a success, mostly. The needs assessments that we printed out were too difficult to fill out for the elderly. We are planning to visit them one day to communicate and finally meet them. We may start visiting them more frequently after that, outside of school hours. Our event, after a while of calling and planning, might finally come! Hopefully our T-shirts come soon, too.
Today was a tense meeting. Some important changes are taking place.... We will now be taking attendance of all club members. As many people don´t show up to our meetings, if they don´t have a reason, and it happens too many times. Our mentors are slightly angry. Not much work was done today. Mostly important news. Our mentors also told us about this event, possibly a conference, because I forgot. Up to five of us can fo. They don't know the details yet.
Today, we had a real after school meeting. Two thirds of the total club members attended. Most of the members were part of management. They discussed about the retirement homes that our other mentor, Ms. Wilkins, contacted. They called another retirement home, but were not able to reach the right person to talk about holding a tech education day. Later on this meeting, one of the retirement homes called her, and have accepted to meet with both mentors to discuss a date to hold this event. We members will not come with the first meeting to discuss the event.
